Start date: ASAP

Contract duration: 6 months

Beroe is searching for a Design Engineer to join our product design team. This mixed role bridges Product Design and Frontend Engineering, ensuring our project vision is translated into clean, consistent, and code-ready components.

You will work closely with the product design team (Figma) and engineering team (React/Tailwind) to build and maintain a unified component system in Subframe, accelerate prototype execution, and reduce design-to-development gaps.

This hire is essential to enabling our design engineering lead to focus on systems thinking, product strategy translation, and architecture, while you own the execution pipeline.

If you love building beautiful, scalable components and working in fast-paced teams where design and engineering overlap, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Execution & Component Development

  • Build, maintain, and evolve Subframe component libraries (Tailwind + React-ready).
  • Translate high-fidelity designs into code-ready components with clean structure and reusable logic.
  • Develop variants, states, and interaction patterns with an eye for scalability.
  • Create and maintain micro-interactions, flows, and prototyped behavior.

Design → Code Pipeline

  • Partner with Product Design to translate UX specifications into engineering-ready assets.
  • Work with Frontend Engineering (React/Tailwind) to align implementation with design intent.
  • Improve the consistency and reliability of design handoffs.

Design System & Documentation

  • Contribute to visual token systems (colors, typography, spacing, elevations).
  • Document components, interaction rules, naming conventions, and usage guidelines.
  • Help maintain Figma ↔ Subframe alignment and a predictable pipeline.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work side-by-side with the Design Engineering Lead to enable conceptual and systems-level work.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering to resolve feasibility questions early.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure quality across prototypes and MVP features.

Quality & Efficiency

  • Reduce engineering rework by producing high-quality, unambiguous components.
  • Improve team velocity by reducing bottlenecks in execution and handoff.
  • Champion clean, efficient, scalable design engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 3–5+ years experience as a Design Engineer, UI Engineer, Frontend Designer, or similar hybrid role.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma (components, variants, auto-layout, design tokens).
  • Hands-on experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Advanced knowledge of Tailwind CSS.
  • Experience building or contributing to design systems.
  • Familiarity with component-driven development and logic design.
  • Ability to create reusable, documented, system-friendly UI building blocks.

Tooling (Preferred)

  • Experience using Subframe or similar code-ready design tools.
  • Strong understanding of handoff tools, versioning, and component governance.
  • Exposure to JSON structures, API-driven UI, or data-rich application interfaces.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills—able to translate between design and engineering.
  • Attention to detail in both interaction design and code structure.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Proactive problem-solver who spots UI/UX inconsistencies early.
  • Strong documentation and collaboration habits.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with AI or agent-based system interfaces
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, REST, or schema-driven UI design
  • Accessibility (WCAG) understanding
  • Experience in enterprise SaaS or procurement platforms
  • Interest in systems thinking, product architecture, or data-driven design

What Success Looks Like (90 Days)

  • You have built or refined core components in Subframe.
  • You’re independently handling the execution pipeline, freeing the design engineering lead.
  • You’ve strengthened the design→code workflow with predictable outputs for engineering.
  • You’ve reduced engineering rework and increased prototype quality.
  • The MAX design system is more unified, documented, and easier to scale.
